What is the difference between a colocation and dedicated server?

Updated June 20, 2011

Colocation is where the hardware remains the property and responsibility of the company or customer. The host provides secure environment with stable power, cooling and internet connectivity.

In the case of dedicated or leased hardware it is the property of the host and the customer pays a fixed fee to lease the hardware. Any problems with the physical hardware are the responsibility of the host.
